How it began

Our Story

"Some stories begin with a grand gesture. Ours began with a spilled coffee and an apology."

Autumn 2019

The First Meeting

A crowded café, one tray too many, and a flat white that ended up on Daniel's notebook. Priya offered to replace the coffee. Daniel suggested she replace it over dinner instead.

Summer 2021

First Trip to Lisbon

We spent a week getting lost in Alfama, eating too many pastéis de nata and listening to fado until midnight. By the end of the trip, we knew this city would always mean something to us.

Spring 2023

Making a Home

Two apartments became one. We learned that Daniel alphabetises the spice rack and Priya never, ever closes a cupboard door. Somehow it works.

October 2026

The Proposal

Back at the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, overlooking the same rooftops from our first trip. Daniel asked. Priya said yes before he finished the question.

Getting there & staying

Travel Information

✈ Getting to Lisbon

Fly into Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), served by direct flights from most major European cities and several from North America and the Middle East.

  • From the airport The Metro (red line) takes you to the city centre in around 25 minutes. Taxis and ride-share apps are plentiful and cost roughly €15–25.
  • Visas Portugal is in the Schengen Area. Please check requirements for your nationality well in advance.
  • Time zone Western European Time (same as the UK).

⌂ Where to Stay

We've arranged group rates at a few hotels. Mention "Priya & Daniel wedding" when booking. Shuttles to the venue will depart from the Baixa area.

  • Hotel in Baixa Shuttle pick-up Central, walkable, close to everything. Mid-range.
  • Boutique guesthouse, Príncipe Real Leafy neighbourhood with great restaurants. 10-minute walk to the shuttle.
  • Apartments in Alfama Ideal for families or longer stays. Expect hills and cobbles!

Book early — September is still high season in Lisbon.

⇄ Getting to the Venue

The wedding takes place at a quinta in the Sintra hills, about 40 minutes from central Lisbon.

  • Shuttle buses (recommended) Depart 14:30 from Baixa and return at 23:30 and 01:00. Please indicate on your RSVP if you'd like a seat.
  • Driving Parking is available at the venue. Note that roads are narrow and winding.
  • Taxi Around €40–50 each way. Book your return in advance as taxis are scarce late at night.

☼ Things to Do

Make a holiday of it! A few of our favourites:

  • Ride Tram 28 The classic yellow tram through Alfama and Graça — go early to avoid queues.
  • Pastéis de Belém The original custard tarts. Worth the queue, we promise.
  • Day trip to Sintra Pena Palace and the Moorish castle. Fairytale stuff.
  • LX Factory Shops, street art and brunch under the bridge.
  • Miradouro de Santa Luzia Our favourite viewpoint — for obvious reasons.

Good to know

Weather September is warm and sunny — expect 22–28°C in the day and cooler evenings. Bring a light layer for the hills.
Currency Euro (€). Cards are widely accepted, but keep some cash for small cafés and tram tickets.
Language Portuguese. English is widely spoken in Lisbon. "Obrigado/a" (thank you) goes a long way.
Footwear Lisbon is steep and cobbled, and the venue has gravel paths. Consider block heels or flats for the garden ceremony.
Gifts Your presence is truly the greatest gift. If you'd like to contribute to our honeymoon, details will be shared closer to the day.
Children Little ones are warmly welcome at all events. Let us know on your RSVP so we can plan seating and meals.
