A kitchen built on Grandma's handwritten recipes
Baan Mali means "Jasmine House" — named after our grandmother, Mali, who grew up cooking over charcoal in a small village outside Chiang Mai. When our parents moved to Austin in 2003, they brought her recipe notebook with them, stained with fish sauce and love.
In 2009, we opened our doors on East 7th Street with twelve tables and a lot of hope. Today, our mom still pounds every curry paste by hand each morning, our dad runs the wok station, and us kids handle everything else. Nothing comes from a jar. Nothing is rushed.
