Terms of Service
Last updated: October 14, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Tao Synergies Inc. ("TAO-1", "we", "us"). They cover tao1.ai and jtao.ai, the TAO-1 chat, Code and voice features, and the TAO-1 API (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, getting an API key, or using the Service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Who can use TAO-1
You must be at least 15 to use the chat and Code features. You must be at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live, if higher) to use the API or to buy credit. If you use TAO-1 for a company, you confirm you can bind that company to these terms.
2. Your account and API keys
Keep your password and API keys secret; you are responsible for what happens with them. API keys start with jmk_ and are shown once. If a key leaks, revoke it in Account → API keys and tell us. Give us accurate sign-up details. One person or company, one account, unless we agree otherwise.
3. What you can do with TAO-1
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service under these terms. You can build products on the API, including commercial ones. You may resell or pass on access to the API as part of your own product, if every one of your end users is covered by your own terms, you stay responsible for their use of TAO-1 under these terms, and you do not misrepresent what TAO-1 is.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use TAO-1 to:
- break the law, or help someone else do so;
- harm or exploit children, or create sexual content involving minors;
- plan or carry out violence, self-harm, weapons, or serious crime;
- make malware, phishing, spam, or scams, or attack other people's systems;
- harass, defraud, impersonate, or deceive people in harmful ways (for example, fake reviews or fake identities);
- collect personal data you have no right to collect;
- probe for, copy, or extract our models, prompts, routing or keys;
- use TAO-1's output to train or fine-tune a general-purpose AI model that competes with TAO-1; (using output for your own products, data analysis, evaluation of your own systems, or a model for a narrow task of your own is fine);
- get around limits, billing, or safety checks, or run abusive automated traffic.
We may refuse a request, stop a request, or suspend an account that breaks these rules or puts others or the Service at risk. Where we can, we'll say why.
5. Your content and TAO-1's answers
- You own what you put in and what you get out, as between you and us. You promise you have the right to use what you send.
- You give us permission to process it to run the Service for you (send it to the models and tools that answer it, and show it back to you).
- What we keep and how we use it is set out on our Privacy pages. In short: the app (tao1.ai and jtao.ai) can use your chats and builds to improve TAO-1 unless you turn that off (Account → Privacy; in the EU, UK and Switzerland we ask first). Requests made through the API, including through partners and routers, are not used to improve TAO-1 and do not leave their prompt or answer text with us. What we keep for API requests is set out on the API privacy page. We never train or fine-tune a model on customer prompts or answers.
- Answers can be wrong. TAO-1 is an AI. It can make mistakes, miss things, and produce code that doesn't work or isn't secure. Check anything that matters. TAO-1 is not a doctor, lawyer, financial adviser or emergency service. If you or someone else is in danger, contact local emergency services. In the US you can call or text 988 for crisis support.
- Similar outputs may be given to different people; we don't promise an answer is unique.
6. Voice
Voice input records audio in your browser and sends it to TAO-1's own speech-to-text to produce text in your message box. We don't store the audio; only technical details (length, language, cost) are kept. You choose what to say and whether to send the text.
7. Prices, credits and payments
- Pay as you go. The API and app charge per token used, at the prices on tao1.ai/pricing (today: $0.50 per million input tokens, $0.15 per million cached input tokens, $7.50 per million output tokens). There is no subscription. We can change prices; increases apply to usage starting 14 days after we post them on the pricing page (decreases apply at once).
- Free credit. New accounts get $5 of free credit (one allowance per person). Free credit has no cash value and does not expire, but we can withdraw it if it is abused (for example, creating many accounts to collect it).
- Prepaid balance and holds. You add credit to your account (payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card number). Before a request runs we may place a small hold on your balance; it settles to the real cost when the request ends and the rest is released. If your balance (or a spending limit you set) can't cover the hold, the request is refused with a
402and nothing is sent. - Failed requests. A request that fails before TAO-1 returns usage is not charged. If a stream is cut off, you pay for what was actually generated.
- Refunds. Unused paid credit is refundable within 30 days of purchase, on request, minus any payment-processor fees we can't recover. Credit you have used, free credit and promotional credit are not refundable. If we make a billing error we fix it and credit you. Consumer rights that can't be waived by law still apply.
- Taxes. Prices may exclude sales tax/VAT; where required we collect and remit it, and the amount is shown before you pay.
- Spending controls. Account → Spending controls lets you set limits. Balances are held in US dollars. A balance is not a bank account, earns no interest, and can't be withdrawn as cash except as described under Refunds.
- Chargebacks. Please contact us first. We may suspend accounts with unresolved payment disputes.
8. Fair use and limits
We set rate limits and size limits so everyone gets a working service. They are listed in the API reference and may change, and higher limits are available on request. We may slow, queue or refuse traffic that would harm the Service (including during capacity shortages). The Code feature limits how many projects can run at once; idle projects are paused to make room and resume when you send a message. Heavy or unusual use (for example, load testing) needs our OK first.
9. Availability and changes
We work hard to keep TAO-1 running but don't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may add, change or remove features, models and endpoints; for the API we'll give reasonable notice of changes that would break a working integration where we can. We may update these terms; we'll post the new date, and for a material change we'll tell you (by email or in the app) at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new terms.
10. Third-party services
TAO-1 may use other providers to run models, search the web, take payments, or host things. Some features open third-party sites (for example explode.tao1.ai, or X profiles on request). Their own terms apply to those sites. Our Privacy pages describe what is shared with providers and the protections we require.
11. Our rights
TAO-1 and the Service (software, design, trademarks, model weights, routing) belong to us or our licensors. These terms don't give you rights to them beyond using the Service. If you send us feedback, we may use it without owing you anything.
12. No warranty
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE GIVE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T PROMISE THAT ANSWERS OR CODE ARE CORRECT, SECURE OR SUITABLE FOR YOUR USE.
13. Limit of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA OR GOODWILL. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND (B) US$100. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law (for example for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence).
14. Business users: your responsibility to us
If you use TAO-1 for a business (including building a product on the API), and a claim is brought against us because of your content, your product, or your breach of these terms, you'll cover our reasonable costs and losses from it, unless we caused the problem. This section does not apply to individuals using TAO-1 for personal, non-business purposes.
15. Ending the relationship
You can stop using TAO-1 and delete your account at any time (Account → Settings → Delete my account). We delete your data as described on our Privacy pages; some copies stay in encrypted backups for a limited time. We can suspend or end your access for breaking these terms, for legal reasons, or if the account has been inactive for 24 months; if we end an account without cause we'll refund unused paid credit. Sections that should survive (ownership, payments owed, disclaimers, liability, disputes) do.
16. Disputes and governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
- Talk first. Before starting a formal dispute, email support@tao1.ai with a description and give us 30 days to try to resolve it.
- Binding individual arbitration. If we can't resolve it, any dispute, claim or controversy arising out of or relating to these terms or the Service will be resolved by binding arbitration on an individual basis, administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules in New York County, New York, or by video where the rules allow it. The arbitrator applies New York law and these terms. We pay the filing fees above what a court filing would cost you, for claims under $10,000, as the provider's rules allow. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction.
- No class actions. You and we each agree to bring claims only in your or our individual capacity, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative action. The arbitrator can't combine claims or preside over a class action. If this paragraph is found unenforceable as to a claim, that claim goes to court (not arbitration) in New York County, and the courts there have exclusive jurisdiction.
- Small claims and injunctions. Either of us may bring an individual claim in small-claims court in New York County (or where you live) if it qualifies, and either of us may go to court to stop infringement or misuse of intellectual property or of the Service.
- Opt-out. You can opt out of arbitration within 30 days of first accepting these terms by emailing support@tao1.ai with "arbitration opt-out" and your account email. If you opt out, disputes go to the state or federal courts in New York County.
- Other than what's above, the courts in New York County, New York have exclusive jurisdiction.
17. General
These terms are the whole agreement between us about the Service. If a part is unenforceable, the rest stays. You can't transfer these terms without our consent; we can transfer them in a merger or sale. Not enforcing a term isn't giving it up.
